New interior

Yesterday I got lucky and found an all original interior set out of a 67 Belvedere II just a few miles from my house. The interior is in really good condition except for a few tears on the front seat, still much better than the interior that was in the car when I bought it.

The new seats and door panels are solid black, which is exactly what I wanted. I scored both seats and all four door panels for $200! I also got a set of steel wheels and two sets of hubcaps, one of which are the Satellite hubcaps with spinners.

Electronic ignition conversion

I tried installing the Accel points eliminator kit but had no luck with it. Sheered off a contact on the coil, luckily John had an extra lying around. Back to the points and condenser for now.

Front brakes are working again

Blead the brakes this morning. I have brakes again! You never realize how important stopping is until you can’t do it!!!

New Master Cylinder

John and I started rebuilding the front brakes today. We got the new pads on and replaced the leaky wheel cylinders with a set I salvaged from Mark but weren’t getting any pressure. I ran up to AutoZone and picked up a new master cylinder. The new master cylinder is in. We still need to bleed the brakes but the pedal already seems a lot stiffer. Never underestimate the value of stopping!!

Running a little rough

I took the car in to Patriot Engine on Manor Rd. and they recommended new points and some carburetor work. Jacob referred me to AJB Carburetor Services on South Congress.

Elias at AJB adjusted the air/fuel mixture and throttle but said the carburetor needed some work. The rebuild isn’t much cheaper than a new carburetor so I’ll probably replace the Edelbrock 1406 with a new one this weekend and replace the points and condenser.

Registered Antique

Antique Plates

Antique Plates

I registered Mr. Belvedere as an antique today. I’m not supposed to use the car as a daily driver but since I have the Sportster that shouldn’t be an issue. The upside is that I don’t have to worry about inspection and antique registration is about 20% of the price of standard registration.

Headers

Headers

When I bought the car there were a pair of headers in the trunk. The guy I bought it from said the guy he got the engine from gave them to him after the engine was already in and they never got around to putting them on. I plan to either repaint them or wrap them with exhaust wrap before putting them on.

I cleaned wire brushed and vacuumed the floorboards then coated the passenger side floorboard with “1″ Step rust killer/neutralizer.

Interior Update

Interior

Interior

I’ve been slowly gutting the interior over the past few weeks. Currently the only thing left to remove is the front seat and a small piece of carpet underneath it. Once the seat and carpet is out I will start cutting out rust spots and treating it with 1-Step.

Once the rust is removed I plan on riveting in a few pieces of sheet metal to hold me over until I can replace the floor pan. I also need to remove the gauge cluster out of the dash so I can replace a few bulbs and figure out why the fuel gauge isn’t working.

Installed New Spark Plugs

Champion Spark Plugs

Champion Spark Plugs

I replaced the spark plugs and adjusted the timing today. Mr. Belvedere seemed to be running and idling a lot smoother. Took a trip to the grocery store, Mr. Belvedere is still there.

I’m not seeing any fuel getting into the carburetor and there isn’t any fuel coming out of the fuel line that feeds the carburetor. I bought a new fuel pump last night, going to try putting it on after work today.
